A dark Sk8-Hi foundation, eerie Foam Green details, and glow-in-the-dark Reaper graphics make this an obvious choice for a custom build that's supposed to look a little dangerous when the lights go down. Frankenskates chooses the Sk8-Hi platform because the construction genuinely works for skating. The signature ribbed, padded high-top collar provides ankle support comparable to many popular skate boots while retaining the flexibility and agility that makes sneaker conversions responsive and comfortable. Its combination of canvas, mesh, and suede uppers provides breathability and durability without the weight and stiffness of many traditional leather skate boots. And then there's the glow. Under normal lighting, you've got a sinister black-and-green sneaker. Charge the glow-in-the-dark details and the Reaper gets another opportunity to make an appearance—particularly appropriate for late-night rink sessions and builds that were never intended to look factory-issued. Fortunately, underneath the graphics is the same supportive, breathable, flexible Sk8-Hi construction that makes this one of our favorite foundations for custom quad conversions. Frankenskates Build Notes: Sneaker conversions require proper reinforcement and mounting. Select the plate according to the desired wheelbase, mounting position, and handling characteristics rather than simply matching a plate number to the shoe size. Best for: Custom quad builds, rhythm skating, rink sessions, night skating, horror-inspired setups, and anyone who thinks ordinary roller skates could use a little more death. Build weird.
